On May 21, San Diego-based cAMPfield Therapeutics emerged as a newly formed biotech company, raising a $180 million Series A backed by some of the most prominent life science investors, according to CEO Bill Gerhart’s LinkedIn post.

The investor syndicate includes Mountainfield Venture Partners, Frazier Life Sciences, Deep Track Capital, Forbion, Abingworth, Venrock, Longitude Capital, Novo Holdings, and RA Capital.

cAMPfield was originally formed under Mountainfield Venture Partners’ “NewCo” strategy, which builds companies around development-stage, in-licensed assets with potential to transform patient care. The firm previously launched Timberlyne Therapeutics under a similar model, which raised $180 million in January 2025 based on an asset sourced from Coherent Biopharma.

CEO Bill Gerhart brings more than two decades of experience in pulmonary, fibrotic, and inflammatory diseases, with a track record of leading multiple biotech companies through M&A exits, including Elevation Pharmaceuticals (acquired by Sunovion for up to $430 million) and Patara Pharma (acquired by Roivant Sciences for up to $348 million).

During his time at Roivant, Gerhart served as a venture partner and led multiple “Vant” companies, including Respivant and Kinevant, as well as serving on the board of Pulmovant, which is developing therapies for pulmonary hypertension associated with interstitial lung disease.

cAMPfield’s leadership team also includes CTO Patricia Turney, formerly CTO of Acelyrin, and VP of Global Regulatory Affairs Rita Shah, who has held senior roles at Vertex, MBX Biosciences, AstraZeneca, and Johnson & Johnson.

While the company has not officially disclosed its pipeline, SEC filings suggest involvement with PDE4 inhibitor HPP737, originally developed by vTv Therapeutics and now globally licensed through Newsoara Biopharma.

HPP737 has been evaluated in clinical studies in China across psoriasis, COPD, atopic dermatitis, and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, including an ongoing Phase III study in psoriasis. Approved PDE4 therapies include Arcutis Biotherapeutics’ Zoryve and Boehringer Ingelheim’s Jascayd for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, while additional PDE3/PDE4 programs are also being explored for respiratory diseases.
